Houston Bishop Calls for National Dialogue on Keeping Our Kids Safe, Gun Violence

(HOUSTON – May 3) Prominent Houston Bishop, James Dixon II, is calling for a national conversation on keeping our kids safe as the National Rifle Association kicks off its 70th convention.

Bishop_James_Dixon_Headshot_WebDixon II, who leads the Community of Faith church in Houston, said the nation has to get serious about protecting its children from violence.

“This is an issue that’s not about politics, about religion,” said Dixon II who recently founded the Safer Place for Me Foundation to raise awareness about violence in communities throughout Houston and around the country, “it’s about families and our children.”

A Safer Place for Me  (http://www.asaferplaceforme.org/index.html) is a national campaign to encourage all families of all races, incomes and politics to sit down to talk to each about how they eliminate violence in their communities, particular against children. The foundation is asking people to join him and thousands of others to fight violence.  To raise money for the foundation, Dixon II wrote and co-produced with Ernest Walker of Walker Entertainment Group, a powerful song and music video performed by a multicultural children’s choir, “Create a Safer Place for Me”.

“Just last week, I held two funerals for two young men who didn’t deserve to die,” Dixon II said. “It’s time we set up, stand tall, take a stand and start talking.”
