Syndicated Radio Personality and Foundation Chairman Tom Joyner to Lead Mission
(DALLAS – September 2) The Tom Joyner Foundation, the Dallas-based nonprofit that helps support historically black colleges and universities, today announced that it will lead a tour for HBCU presidents to explore global exchange and research opportunities for students and faculty in Cuba.
Tom Joyner, the chairman and founder of the Foundation and nationally syndicated radio personality, will lead the four-day mission that is scheduled for May 2016. It will include a visit with representatives from the Ministry of Education, the University of Havana and the Superior Polytechnic School Institute.
“Higher education will play a significant role in the future of Cuba and its U.S. education partners,” said Thomas Joyner, Jr., president and CEO of the Foundation. “We want to provide an opportunity for HBCU presidents to begin to figure out how Cuba may play a role in providing exciting opportunities for their students and research for their faculty.”
As a result of President Barack Obama re-opening the U.S. Embassy in Cuba, the Foundation has invited HBCUs presidents and their key administrators to participate in this extraordinary opportunity. Participants on the mission will meet with experts to learn more about the country’s culture, music, history and educational institutions.
HBCU participants that are interested in traveling will have to pay their own round-trip airfare from Miami International Airport. Once in Havana, Joyner and Cuba experts will lead the administrators and educators in a series of interactive discussions and tours.
