Dr. Leon is a Washington, D.C. political scientist whose primary areas of expertise are American government, black politics, and public policy. He’s a frequent guest and fill-in of TV One’s NewsNow with Roland Martin.

For 11 years, he was a lecturer/teaching associate in the Political Science Department at Howard University in Washington, D.C. Currently, Dr. Leon is a nationally broadcast radio talk show host on SiriusXM Satellite radio channel 126, nationally syndicated columnist, and regular political commentator on national and international news programs.

Dr. Leon earned a B.S. degree in Political Science from Hampton Institute, a Masters in Public Administration (MPA) from Howard University and a Ph.D. in Political Science from Howard University.OFGH6580

Some additional background:

  • In the fall of 2015, Dr. Leon lectured during the “New Horizon: The International Conference of Independent Thinkers” in Tehran, Iran.
  • The focus of the conference was “On the Brink: Racial Human Rights Abuse in the US”. 
  • The conference included more than 30 journalists, writers and academics from around the world who presented papers and articulated issues of world geopolitics.
  • While in Tehran, he was invited to be a guest lecturer at the University of Tehran, Sharif University,
    University of Esfahan
    and the Islamic Azad University in Sari.  He talked to students, academics and intellectuals and discussed the US/Iran Nuclear deal, Islamic stereotypes in US media, police brutality in the African-American community, President Obama and his Middle East policy and domestic policy.
  • Participated in a two-hour meeting with former Iranian President Mahmood Ahmadinejad as part of a small delegation.
  • Participated in a number of television programs in Tehran and Sari such as Press TV and New Horizon.

It also is a broadband video channel network that is offering originally produced and timely, relevant and provocative content from strategic content partners and contributors from around the world. .


To serve as an intern to report, write, produce stories – print and broadcast – as well update the site with timely multicultural video and written content for the PoliticsInColor.com News Network.


  1. To monitor local newspapers, news sites, broadcast outlets and blogs for political stories that have a particular multicultural angle or impact the nation’s diverse population.
  2. To rewrite and do original reporting, producing and editing for a multicultural political news round up, mini-packages capturing local political story angles, e.g. people on the street interview reacting to the candidates; local political rallies; local trends/features that reflect a national issue.
  3. Coordinate content from contributors; upload as needed
  4. Find public domain and/or royalty free photos for publication on the website
  5. To update site daily
  6. Post content to Facebook, Twitter and YouTube

  • Print/broadcast/journalism experience.   Journalism/Broadcast/Electronic News majors preferred, but not required.
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Solid grasp of grammar, spelling, punctuation and AP Style.
  • Comfort in using digital equipment, such as digital voice recorders, video and still cameras.
  • Working knowledge of Final Cut Pro/Final Cut Express, Adobe Premiere, Adobe Photoshop, Sound Slides or other audio/video editing software.

Neil Foote

Neil Foote is a collaborator, connector, strategist and journalist. He has experience in all aspects of the media, including print, broadcast and the Internet. Foote has been a newspaper reporter (The Miami Herald & The Washington Post), a newspaper industry executive (American Society of Newspaper Editors) and an Internet strategist (The Dallas Morning News, Belo Corporation, Tom Joyner).  He is President and CEO of  Foote Communications LLC, a public relations, web consulting and multicultural marketing firm.  His clients include the Tom Joyner Foundation, J. Anthony Brown, AMS Production Group and REACH Media Inc.  He also is an assistant professor of University of North Texas’ Department of Journalism.

Previously, Foote was Director of Communications for Tom Joyner’s Reach Media. He managed the public relations and communications plan for all entities of the multimedia company that is the parent company for the Tom Joyner Morning Show, the nation’s #1 syndicated morning entertainment radio show. He is charged with creating an overall media plan for the company as well as each of its subsidiaries and special projects and has worked secure articles and appearances in major national media, including the New York Times, Forbes, Fortune, Ebony, Black Enterprise, CNN, Regis & Kelly Live! and NPR.

Jane Foote

A veteran newspaper reporter and editor, Jane Foote is Foote Communications’ Chief Operations Officer. She had a distinguished career at The Washington Post and The Dallas Morning News where she worked in several roles, including metro reporter and editor, financial reporter and local columnist.

Michael H. Cottman

Michael Cottman an award-winning journalist and author, is a Senior Correspondent for REACH Media/Radio One, the nation’s largest black-owned media company. Cottman — a former reporter for The Washington Post, Newsday and The Miami Herald — is also presently a lecturer in the Department of Journalism at University in Washington, D.C. Cottman is also covering the 2008 Presidential campaign and offers political commentary and analysis for The Tom Joyner Morning Show and XM Radio.

Cottman, the author of three books including the story of a 17th-Century slave ship, has spent nearly 30 years reporting about politics, social trends and America’s expanding multi-cultural society. Cottman has worked for some of the nation’s top newspapers, including The Washington Post, Newsday, The Miami Herald and The Atlanta Constitution. In addition to writing for newspapers. He has received numerous awards including journalism’s highest honor, the Pulitzer Prize, which he shared with a team of reporters at Newsday in 1992. Cottman also appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show in 2000 to discuss his book, “The Wreck of the Henrietta Marie.” He has also appeared on CNN; NPR; PBS; C-SPAN Booknotes; ABC News and CBS News affiliates, The Learning Channel and The History Channel.
