The B-System product, in part, offers a more effective and secure means to issue and protect the national use of the social security number. Florida A & M University and Tennessee State University are partnering with Tom Joyner’s HBCUsOnline as part of a new national initiative to enroll students in undergraduate and graduate online degree programs at Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

FAMU and Tennessee State join Texas Southern University to become part of Joyner’s education services company that has been well-received by tens of thousands of potential students since it launched nine-months ago.  In addition to offering new degree choices, HBCUsOnline is offering a wide range of professional certificates, from basic business skills to advanced certifications for information technology (IT) professionals.

Tennessee State, founded in 1912, has more than 8,800 students, and for 12 consecutive years has been ranked one of the nation’s best colleges by U.S. News and World Reports. The Nashville, TN-based school is offering several options, including two undergraduate degrees and a masters degree program that are specifically designed to help working adults complete their degrees.  The Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies (BSID) is specifically designed for students who have already earned some prior college credit. It is flexible enough to help them complete remaining coursework and earn a degree. The Bachelor of Science in Professional Studies (BSPS) has a concentration in Organizational Leadership or Information Technology. The Master of Professional Studies (MPS) allows students to select a concentration in one of three areas: Human Resources Leadership, Training and Development or Strategic Leadership.

Jones School of Business, its Barbara Jordan-Mickey Leland School of Public Affairs, and its College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, which has produced 27 percent of all African-American pharmacists in the country.

(Dallas TX – January 27) Nationally known fitness guru Donna Richardson Joyner is launching a national community tour targeting churches and black colleges. The tour will feature her new cleansing, weight loss, and fitness program to help eliminate the national obesity crisis.

 The “Sweating in the Spirit” Community Tour and the “Donnamite Cleansing, Weight  Loss, Fitness” program will kick off in Greensboro, NC at one of the nation’s oldest historically black colleges – Bennett College.The tour will follow the journey of 26 women who are setting out to become healthy and fit.

The tour will continue at the Dallas-based 30,000-member Potter’s House, led by the internationally renowned Bishop T.D. Jakes, and at the St. John Church in Grand Prairie, Texas. Additional communities will follow.“This program is about strengthening our mind, body and spirit to help America become Faithfully Fit and Fabulous!” said Richardson Joyner who created and produced the nation’s No. 1 “Sweating in the Spirit” DVD, which has sold more than a million copies.

(Dallas, TX – November 16, 2007)  Four Edward Waters College students are winners of the Tom Joyner Foundation® “Brothers on the Move” Scholarship program, designed to help increase the number of black males enrolled in Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCUs).

The Edward Waters recipients of the “Brothers on the Move” $2,500-scholarship are:

** Cody Puntal, a sophomore business management major from Jacksonville, Fl. This “Brother on the Move” is an honor student who plans a career in baseball and as an entrepreneur.  Puntal is a second year starter on the Edward Waters baseball team, a Presidential Academic Achiever, a peer tutor and a volunteer at a local youth center.

** Cedric Denson, a junior public health major with a political science minor from Schenectady, NY, is an honor student who plans a career in the  World Health Organization .  Denson wants  to make a difference in closing the world wide health gap. At Edward Waters, he is the Secretary of the Student Government Association, a resident assistant in the Honors Village, and he is a peer tutor.

** Brian Fitzpatrick ,a sophomore sociology major from Jacksonville, FL, is an honor
student who plans a career in professional baseball and as a youth counselor. At
Edward Waters, he is a member of the baseball team, a peer tutor and coaches
baseball at a local youth center.

** Shane Younts, a junior computer information systems major from West Palm Beach, FL.  Younts is an honor student who also plans a career in baseball followed by politics. Younts is a member of the college baseball team, and the Student Government Association. He is also a peer tutor and volunteer at a local community center. 

Joyner, a graduate of Tuskegee Institute, said that the scholarships are greatly needed.  On average, the black male student enrollment at an HBCU is about 37 percent.  To be a candidate for the scholarship, students must attend a Foundation “School of the Month”, have a grade point average of  at least 3.0, and be a campus leader involved in the community with a career goal toward making a difference in the quality of life for his race.

Cheney State University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia was the ‘School of the Month’ in August, followed by Tennessee State University in Nashville, Edward Waters College in Jacksonville, FL, and Savannah State University in Savannah, GA in November.

The “Brothers on the Move” scholarships will be announced every Thursday on the Tom Joyner Morning Show, which is aired in 120 markets and reaches nearly eight million listeners every week.

The Foundation offers scholarships to students attending its Schools of the Month throughout the week. On Mondays the focus is on students who are single parents, and on Wednesdays general scholarships are awarded.
